About
Kris Ong is a screenwriter from Singapore who has several original television projects currently in development with networks such as Apple TV+, Netflix, StudioCanal, Canal+ and others.
Kris's parents met and fell in love as literature undergraduates. Her late mother, Su, was an English teacher who graded the writing in Kris's private journals until the age of six. Kris didn’t know it at the time, but she was training for a career in spilling her guts on the page for people to comb over in red pen.
Kris’s “thing” is cross-cultural stories and projects, at the heart of which is the lifelong struggle humans face to connect with each other. Her list of writing credits includes the award-winning Singapore/ Korean feature film "Ajoomma," (2022) directed by He Shuming and executive produced by Anthony Chen, for which she was nominated for a Golden Horse Award for Best Original Screenplay.
As a director, her fiction short films and music videos have collectively been screened at over 30 film festivals. Her latest short film “Mountain Land: A Celebration,” had its world premiere at the Concorto Film Festival. As of 2024, she is taking a break from directing to focus on screenwriting.
She was the co-founder and a director of Asian film and TV company Momo Film Co, part of Beach House Pictures and Fremantle from 2018-2024. She is a former alumnus of Sundance Intensive Asia 2021, Documentary Dojo 2019 and Southeast Asian Film Lab as part of SGIFF.
Kris is also active as a script consultant, consulting on a range of feature films and television projects in the independent film and studio space, as well as tertiary institutions.
